I was feeling a little sluggish. By my calculations, standing up here gives me an extra 300 joules of potential energy from gravity. Teacher says: Ah, but you had to expend energy to get up there. Your total energy hasn't increased. Peter says: I had Steve lift me up. Teacher says: Fall Break can't come soon enough. Peter says: Thanks for teaching us this stuff, by the way!

FoxTrot by Bill Amend - "Studying Time" published October 15, 2017 - Andy says: Peter, I got an email from your physics teacher today. Peter says: Oh? Andy says: He says you haven't turned in your last three lab reports. Peter says: Oh, don't worry about those. I have a plan. Andy says: A plan?? Peter says: It's physics class. I figure by the end of the year, I'll know how time travel works. My plan is to focus on the easier assignments for now and then do the harder stuff later and travel back in time to turn it in. Genius, no? Andy says: They don't teach time travel in high school physics! Peter says: Well, then I'll take it in college, too, if necessary.

Peter: Yeah, see, the thing is I was really hoping to start this school year off on a positive note. Teacher: A "B" isn't a bad grade. Peter: Yeah, but it's not a POSITIVE grade, you know? It's just kinda neutral. Teacher: I'd call it a positive grade. Peter: But you yourself told us the symbol for positive is a plus sign. Hint hint hint... Teacher: Ah. Well, let's see what I can do... Jason was telling me about this guy who figured out it takes 10,000 hours of practice in order to be really good at anything. School just started a few weeks ago. I've only been doing physics for like 30 hours. Andy: Peter, even at the end of the year you won't have 10,000 hours! Peter: I know. So don't expect super-good grades. Jason: You forgot that Mom has over 10,000 hours of practice seeing through your bull. Peter: Life was so easy as a baby.
