FoxTrot by Bill Amend - "Back-To-School Haircut" published August 21, 2016 - Hairdresser: So what are we doing today? Jason: My mom says I need a back-to-school haircut. Hairdresser: So basically a trim? Jason: Is that what a back-to-school is? Hairdresser: Usually. Jason: Dang, I was hoping it meant something more interesting. Like maybe you'd give me dual mohawks to form a big roman numeral "V" since I'll be in fifth grade, or you'd shave some sort of message onto the back of my head like "I heart homework." Or, I dunno, you might even do both! Hairdresser: Is that your mom sitting over there? Jason: The lady glaring at me right now with no discernable sense of humor? Yeah. Hairdresser: Let's go with a trim. Jason: Maybe you could just say your scissors slipped?

FoxTrot by Bill Amend - "Knowledge Most Awesome" published August 24, 2014 - Dr. Ting: Welcome back to school, everyone. My name is Dr. Ting and I'll be your biology teacher this year. Before we get started, I'm curious if any of you happen to know where the word "biology" comes from, anyone? No? It comes from the Greek word "bios," which means "knowledge most awesome," and the Greek suffix "logy," which means "gained through effort and focus." Basically it means "I have cool things to teach you, but you'll have to pay attention in class and do lots of homework." Shall we begin? Please open your textbooks to page 2, and - Paige: Sir? on page 1 it says "biology" means "the study of life." Dr. Ting: I said page 2, did I not just emphasize paying attention?

FoxTrot by Bill Amend - "Fun With Dad" published August 17, 2014 - Paige: Uggh! I can't believe school starts in a week! Roger: Wait...it starts in ONE week? I thought it was in TWO weeks! I was going to take time off work so we could do a bunch of fun stuff together while there was still time! I had it all planned out! We'd go to the Matchbox Museum...catch a matinee at the big mime theater downtown...hike the historic lost settlers' trail..maybe check out the aquarium's new plankton exhibit...I can't do anything THIS week...I have meetings every day! DANG IT! Oh, well. Maybe next summer. Paige: I assume he made all that up so I'd be glad that school was starting. Peter: Never make assumptions with that man.
